IEEE GRSS Asia Pacific Region Manager
Location: IEEE Beijing Office
Start Date: January 1, 2016
Job type: Part time - up to 3 days per week with average 11 working days per month
Duration: 2 years
This position will report to the Director of China Operations, and the Director of China Operations will supervise this position on a daily basis. The Project Steering Committee, which is a mixture of GRSS international and local volunteers and IEEE staff, will also have some indirect oversight on this position.
About IEEE and GRSS
The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and the Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS) are seeking to appoint an officer to assist in the development and implementation of a strategic plan to increase IEEE and GRSS visibility and membership throughout the People’s Republic of China and Asia-Pacific Region (IEEE Region 10).
Summary of the Role
The successful candidate will work with an International Advisory Team to design, develop and implement the Strategic Plan in order to increase membership and to grow the participation of Chinese remote sensing and spatial information scientists and engineers in IEEE and GRSS activities.
The overall objective is to promote Society membership and engagement in IEEE activities within the spatial information science and engineering communities throughout the Asia-Pacific area (IEEE Region 10).
Duties:
Undertake strong collaboration with the International Advisory Committee in order to disseminate IEEE and GRSS Society values and to work with outside agencies, organizations and remote sensing specialists to achieve membership growth objectives.
Formulate a business and management structure including action plans; milestones and procedures for monitoring progress against stated objectives.
Lead and manage internal GRSS marketing throughout China.
Design digital marketing initiatives to support membership drives as well as plan and facilitate growth in national GRSS Workshops and Seminars.
Implement appropriate communication techniques including website updates, press releases, newsletter translation and distribution, and the use of social media to promote and disseminate Society information and to encourage more public engagement in remote sensing.
Provide a helpdesk for new and prospective members.
Identify and engage with likely new member communities throughout China and prioritize local and regional target audiences suitable for Chapter development.
Goals:
Increase attendance at IGARSS Conferences from China
Consolidate growth and establish new Chapters in Region 10, establish 4 new Chapters in and provide ongoing support for existing GRSS Chapters
Boost the membership of IEEE GRSS in China, double the number of GRSS members in China by the end of 2017
Increase the membership of young scientists and engineers (i.e. those less than 35 years old) from China
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
A university higher degree in remote sensing or related engineering or science technologies is highly preferred.
Publications demonstrating experience in undertaking successful remote sensing research performance.
Current IEEE and GRSS membership including evidence of involvement in GRSS activities including active Chapter involvement together with IGARSS Conferences, seminars and workshop participation is highly preferred.
Must have 7+ yrs of experience in relevant field.
Skills & Other Requirements:
An understanding of marketing skills.
Self-motivation and an ability to work pro-actively and independently as required.
A proven ability to communicate in English and to work constructively in a team.
Must be able to work independently and in team.
Ability to effectively present to audiences with over 100 attendees in either English or Mandarin
Ability to influence and work cooperatively and expeditiously with staff, volunteers, industry, academic and government leaders.
Must be able to nurture an expansive professional network with strategically positioned leaders from the PRC
Must exhibit a positive professional work ethic
Must be able to concurrently handle multiple projects and overlapping deadlines
